Bernard “Bernie” Herrera, 50, of Topeka, died March 31, 2011 at his home.
He was born on December 6, 1960 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Gilbert A. and Frances (Sanchez) Herrera Sr.
Bernie was a Building Construction Specialist for ONEOK in Overland Park, Kansas. He worked as a draftsman and did design work. He loved music especially country and the oldies he also enjoyed watching movies.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Bernie married Yvonne Muñoz on October 10, 1981 in Topeka. She survives. He is also survived by their three children, Shannon Herrera of Dallas, TX, Jessica Young and her husband Michael, and Matthew Herrera all of Topeka, his parents, Gilbert and Frances Herrera Sr., three sisters, Marie “Trina” Kolean of Topeka, Rosemary Herrera of Tacoma, WA, and Virginia Wathen of Tulsa, OK, two brothers, Gil Herrera Jr. and wife Lynn of Topeka and Chris Herrera and wife Jeni of Topeka. Bernie has many beloved nephews, nieces and godchildren that he shared a proud and special bond with. He will be greatly missed by all who knew, loved, and admired him.
He will lie in state at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Monday where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service will be at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
