Judy Gayle Lake

December 19, 1942 — February 27, 2011

Judy Gayle Lake, 68, of Topeka, died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at St. Francis Health Center.

 

Judy was born December 19, 1942 in Ottawa the daughter of Edgar Loyd “Jack” and Elsie (Cannady) Peters.

 

She was a retired Executive Assistant from Financial Service Corporation in Atlanta, GA.  She moved back to Kansas after her retirement to be a “full-time Grandma” and took a position with the Kansas Department of Education until Grayson was born.  She babysat both grandbabies when they were newborns and loved holding those babies. 

 

Judy was a baptized member of the Methodist faith.  She was a seamstress, an avid reader and flower gardener who loved traveling, crocheting and watching her grandchildren.  She recently helped plan her 50th high school reunion in Ottawa where she graduated in 1960.

 

She is survived by her son, L. “Todd” Walburn and his wife Melissa Hunsicker-Walburn, of Hays, formerly of Topeka, a brother, James “Mike” Michael Peters, of Savannah, GA. a grandson, Grayson and a granddaughter, Kennedy.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Cremation will follow with inurnment in Princeton Cemetery at a later date.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Judy’s memory to the Quilts for Angels at St. Francis Health Center sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66603.
