Sharon J. Motto passed away February 20, 2011, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born June 19, 1951 in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Donald B. and Marian E. Cathey (Knox). Her mother passed away in 1982 and her father passed away in 2003. Sharon married Robert E. Motto in 1968. They were divorced, but became friends again later in life. Robert passed away in 2010. Sharon and Bob have three sons from their marriage. Joe (Laura) Motto, Topeka, John (Joi) Motto, Holton and Rob (Marsha) Motto Jr., Wetmore. Sharon has eleven grandchildren. Sharon is survived by her three sons, a brother, Donald R. (Marilyn) Cathey of rural Lyndon, her life partner, Ronald E. (Genie) Porter, all her grandchildren and a niece. Sharon lived most of her life in Topeka and Carbondale communities. After marriage, she moved to Kileen, TX for a year while her husband was stationed at Fort Hood. Upon his discharge, they returned to the Topeka area. Sharon worked for many years in the Shawnee County Motor Vehicle Department, then for about five years for Southwest Publishing, and most recently with Cotton-O’Neil in the billing department. She was forced to take medical retirement due to reoccurring diagnosis and treatment for cancer. Sharon always found the good in people. Even when battling her own illnesses, she cared for and worried about others. She truly loved life and fought long and hard to keep her independence and dignity. We will all remember her and continue to love her for the rest of our lives. Sharon requested a graveside service at the Topeka Cemetery Garden Chapel. The service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2011.
