Josephine M. Baker, “Aunt Jo”, 73, of Lecompton, died February 18, 2011 at the home of her niece.

 

She was born on February 14, 1938 in McKinney, Texas the daughter of William R. and Mary E. (Woolsey) Baker.

 

Josephine was a computer operator for Payless Shoe Source, retiring in 1994.  She volunteered for VITA which was an organization that gave free assistance with the filing of income taxes.  Josephine will be remembered for being someone who enjoyed family; friends and good food.  She was loved and will be missed by those who knew her, especially to those who called her “Aunt Jo”.

 

She is survived by a niece, Angela Winchester and her husband Patrick of Lecompton, Ks., a nephew Jerry Rogers and his wife Erin of Ft. Riley, Ks., and great nieces and nephews, Briana., Catie and Dani Winchester, Isaac and Christian Rogers, and Matthew Shavey. 

 

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jody Rogers.

 

She will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. and a parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 203 E. 3rd Street, Perry, KS.  Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka, Ks.

 

Memorial contributions may be made be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave, Topeka, Ks.  66603.
