Mary Maxine Murray

April 28, 1923 — February 18, 2011

Mary Maxine Murray, 87, of Topeka, formerly of Mayetta, died February 18, 2011 at Rolling Hills Health Center.  She had been a long time resident of the First Apartments.

 

She was born on April 28, 1923 in Lillis, Kansas the daughter of Adolph August and Marie (Godbout) Vossen.  Maxine was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School in Axtell, Kansas.

 

She was employed as a clerk for the Employment Security Division of the State of Kansas prior to her retirement in 1988. 

 

Maxine was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, St. Francis Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary.  She was a volunteer for the V.A. Hospital. 

 

Maxine enjoyed playing cards and spending time with people.

 

She married Thomas Joseph Murray at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell, Kansas on April 9, 1947.  He predeceased her on May 17, 1980.  She was also preceded in death by an infant son, John Murray and a sister Kathryn Lorraine Vossen who also died in childhood.

 

Maxine is survived by eight children, Marie (Bill) Clark of Olathe, Ks., Robert (Kay) Murray of Brandon, FL., Patrick Murray of Buford, GA., Timothy (Alisa) Murray of Topeka, Brian (Denise) Murray of Hoyt, Ks., Beverly Lacey of Overland Park, Ks., Dennis (Pam) Murray of Tecumseh, Ks., and Denton Murray of Topeka, Ks., her grandchildren:  Bill and Tom Clark, Scott Murray, Matt (Eleanor) Murray, Sean (Anne Stava) Murray, Andrew Murray, Ashlee Murray, Sara (Blake) Meyer, Nicholas (Julia) Murray, Jennifer Hopkins, Melissa (Bret) Christian, DeAnne (Andrew) Tworek, Andrea (Eric) Just, Nicole Murray and Kristi Murray, eleven great grandchildren, and a brother Ray (Lavon) Vossen, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Maxine will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Cemetery in Hoyt, Kansas.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Research, American Cancer Society, Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church or Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
