Irma Irene (Petesch) Moriarty

January 17, 1929 — January 24, 2011

Irma Irene (Petesch) Moriarty, age 82, of Topeka died January 24th at Midland Hospice House.

 

She was born on January 17, 1929 in rural Nortonville, Kansas, the daughter of Matthew and Catherine (Victor) Petesch.

 

Irma worked at Capper Publications for ten years and had a child day care in her home for many years.

.

She was also a volunteer for McCrite Plaza Health Care Center and was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

 

Irma loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed caring for others, doing yard work, gardening, and playing bingo and poker.  She was a good cook and everyone loved her brownies.

 

Irma married Richard Eugene Moriarty on November 26, 1952.  He predeceased her on June 19, 1986.  She is survived by three sons; Kevin (Carol) Moriarty of Auburn, Patrick Moriarty  of Topeka, and Dennis (Denise Moore) Moriarty of Hoyt, four grandchildren; Melissa (Steve) Eframo, Melanie Moriarty, Emily (Deion) Christophe and Eric Moriarty and eight great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Schramek of Topeka and a brother Francis (Gladys) Petesch of Meriden.  She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

 

Irma will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
