Wallace Dee McPherson Jr., 81, of Topeka, passed away on January 7, 2011 at the Colmery-O’Neil V.A. Medical Center.
He was also known as “Wally” and “Mac” to his family and friends.
Wallace was born on May 18, 1929 in Topeka, the son of Wallace McPherson Sr. and Reland (Pfost) McPherson-Webb.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers while on active duty during the Korean War. He attended Kansas State University for three years studying Chemical Engineering and was a loyal K-State fan.
Wallace was the owner/operator of Sunshine Salvage and Recycling in Topeka until his retirement.
In his later years he became an avid gardener and enjoyed planting flowers and spending time with his great grandchildren.
Wallace is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue McPherson of the home. Other family members include his children, Mike McPherson of Topeka, Brian McPherson of Commerce City, Colorado, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 14th from 6-8 p.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Leavenworth National Cemetery on Friday, March 4th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Make A Wish Foundation” and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
