Tamara L. Day passed away January 3rd, 2011 at her home in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born on March 22, 1962 to Joyce and Alan Day. Tamara joins her father, Alan, who passed away November 24, 2010 as well as her grandparents in eternal life. Tamara was raised in Topeka and attended Shawnee Heights High School and graduated in 1980. Tamara had a variety of jobs, including working at the State of Kansas, St. Matthews Elementary School, Security Benefit and Verizon Wireless that complemented her outgoing personality. Currently, Tamara was attending Pikes Peak Community College with the goals of fulfilling her dream of earning a bachelor's degree.

 

Tamara married Kenneth L. Johnson and they had three children, Ashley, Christopher, and Kelsie. The couple later divorced. Tamara is survived by her mother, Joyce Day of Topeka, her children, Ashley & Carlos Gonzales of Yuma, AZ, Christopher Day-Johnson of Fort Polk, LA, and Kelsie & Von Schmidt of Dayton, OH. Tamara had four grandchildren, Rylie, Caeden, Kameryn, and Isabella, whom she loved dearly. Tamara is also survived by a brother, Craig Day of Jamestown, ND and a sister, Shelley Alcorn of Honolulu, HI.

 

A wake will be held on Tuesday, January 11th at 5:30 pm at Brennan-Mathena funeral home in Topeka, KS. The family will receive friends following the wake.  Funeral services will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 12th. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Waverly Cemetery. The family has chosen to send memorial contributions to the YWCA of Topeka or St. Matthew Catholic Church, in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
