Mary P. Ortiz, 90, of Topeka, passed away at her home January 3, 2011.
She was born June 1, 1920 in Plantersville, TX the daughter of Felix and Teresa (Ramos) Padilla.
Mary was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and cooking for her family.
She was a former member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and attended Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church while living with her daughter.
Mary was married to Joseph L. Ortiz on May 3, 1947 in Topeka. He preceded her in death June 5, 1999. Three brothers, Felix, Roderick and Marshall and a sister Alice also preceded her in death.
Survivors include; five sons, Geraldo “Jerry” Ortiz, J. Mario Ortiz, Dariel Ortiz (Loretta), Edward Ortiz (Amy), and Joe D. Ortiz, four daughters, Lydia Rich, Gracie Moore (Jesse), Teresa Heideman (Ron), and Melinda Creech (Mark), two sisters, Lupe Parks and Connie Gutierrez. Eighteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.
rs. Ortiz will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
