Cora L. Head

Cora Louise Head, 98, of Topeka, passed away December 15, 2010 at Brewster Place. 

She was born May 20, 1912 in Northampton, PA the daughter of Willard and Kathryne (Blackburn) Richards.  Cora graduated with a degree in Nursing from Presbyterian University in Philadelphia, PA.  She served in the Navy Nurse Corps during WW II.

Cora was employed as a registered nurse at KNI, Brewster Place, the VA Hospital in Leavenworth and Topeka before retiring in 1990.

She was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Joseph Parish, the American Legion and Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW.

Cora was married to Dr. John F. Head on December 24, 1945 in CA.  He preceded her in death on May 4, 1966.  She also was preceded in death by a son Stephen J. Head, a daughter Patricia L. Erikson, a granddaughter Taleena A. Erikson and five sisters; Florence, Ruth, Sara, Annabelle and Mildred.

Survivors include; three sons, John Head and his wife Linda of Brighton, CO, David Head of Denver, and Kevin Head and his wife Kathleen of Appleton, WI and a daughter Mary Head and her husband Don Watkins of Lawrence.  Seven grandchildren; Brian, John, David, Amy, Lisa, Kristin, Katlyn, and four great grandchildren; Jasmine, Genesis, Baylee and Beau also survive. 

Mrs. Head will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW.
