Carl Edgar Goodrich, became very tired from his battle with cancer and died December 7th, in Loveland, Co. to live in eternity with his Lord. Born March 26, 1927, in Topeka, Kansas to Kenneth Goodrich and Pearl Streeter Goodrich, he was the oldest of four sons. Carl grew up in Topeka, graduating from Washburn High School early so he could join the Navy. Carl served on two carriers, Sador and Endover. He was honorably discharged in 1947, where he returned to Topeka and then attended Kansas State University. He also attended and graduated from Washburn University. While growing up, Carl loved pulling pranks with his brothers. He was very proud of his military service and finishing college while raising a family. Carl married Theresa Sanderson on November 11, 1950. They raised 3 daughters, Cathy, Diane and Sherry in Topeka. Carl went to work for Southwestern Bell in August 1952 and retired in April 1990. He started out as a telephone installer, held various other positions, ending up as an engineer. He was very proud of his work and years with the telephone company. Carl enjoyed taking his family on many drives in the country to show them telephone poles that he was responsible for placing and somehow making it interesting. In 1976, Carl and Theresa moved to Salina, Kansas where they both continued working for South Western Bell. After retirement, they spent several years traveling in their 5th wheel, visiting many states and Canada. In 2001, they moved to Arizona, making many friends and enjoying the warmer winters. They continued traveling in the summers until 2009, visiting their daughters and their families in Loveland (Sherry), Omaha, NE (Diane) and Topeka, KS (Cathy), as well as other extended family and friends. Carl was never one to be bored; having several hobbies as well as an avid love of sports, especially basketball and football; he was a ham radio operator, loved camping, motorcycles and enjoyed Sudoku. Always willing to learn something new, he learned to crotchet afghans for therapy after a brain concussion from a terrible fall on ice in 1979. As a child, Carl gave his heart to Jesus, and became a man of God in his 40's. He had a tender spirit and no enemies; he could strike up a conversation with anybody and find something to chat about. He loved his family and never missed sending birthday cards to his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his friendly personality and most of all, that he was a wonderful Dad leaving us with memories that make us laugh and cry. Carl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa of Loveland; daughter Diane Pauls, husband Mark, their five sons Matthew, Scott, Dan, Andy, and Ethan, of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Sherry Allerheiligen, husband Steve, their three children, Rebekah Gee, husband Alex (Korea), Tim and Michael of Loveland; son-in-law Dennis Hanshaw, his children, Derek and Ashley Trimble (David) of Topeka; and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Duane (Barb) Goodrich and Merrill (MaryAnn) Goodrich of Topeka, and various other relatives. Carl was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Cathy Hanshaw, in 2006; his brother Keith Goodrich, 1985. Our family wishes to thank all the staff from Pathways Hospice and the staff at Sterling House at Orchards for their wonderful care and kindness. Without all these amazing people, this would have been so much more difficult to get through; also all the friends of the family who've held us up in prayer. Memorial services will be in Topeka, Kansas on December 30, at 1:30 p.m. at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Dad, enjoy your crown in Heaven that you've earned and thank you for being such a loving and committed husband to our Mom. Go to
