Alice Evelyn McNeive, 96, died peacefully on November 23, 2010. Alice was born in Neodesha, Kansas on January 25, 1914, the daughter of Mamie A. and G. Walter Scott. She lived and attended school in Cherryvale, Kansas, and graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1931. She then lived and worked in Independence, Kansas until she moved to Topeka in 1935.
Alice was employed by both the Kansas State and Federal Governments for many years. She worked at the Topeka Air Force Base during World War II, for the Kansas State Board of Health from 1950 to 1960, then for the Social Security Administration for the next 14 years until she retired in 1974.
Alice was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and Altar Guild, and also the Daughters of Isabella for 65 years. She was married to Raphael B. McNeive for 60 years. They were married in 1937 at St. Mary of the Lake Church in Chicago, Illinois, but moved back to Topeka in 1940. Her husband died in 1997 in Topeka.
She is survived by two daughters, Kay Negash of Boulder, Colorado, and Patricia McNeive of Townsend, Montana, and four grandchildren, Ezana, Tobya, Rachel and Andrew. She was preceded in death by four sisters. The family is very grateful for the care Alice received over the last six years at the Waterford in Helena and the Shelby House in East Helena, Montana.
Mrs. McNeive will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday evening, December 5 where a Parish and Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dei Holy Name Parish. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
