Janet R. Busey

Janet Rose Busey, 68, of Topeka, passed away November 23, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Health Care.

She was born October 18, 1942 in Topeka the daughter of Walter and Arlene (Young) Nickel.  Janet graduated from Washburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

Janet was employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield for over thirty years before she retired.  At the time of her retirement she was a Management Information Co-coordinator.

She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, bowling and bingo.  Janet was a Junior Achievement Advisor and 4-H leader.

Janet was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and sang with the Sweet Adeline’s.

She was married to Merle Busey on March 19, 1965 in Topeka.  He preceded her in death on January 11, 2010.  She is also survived by three daughters Cindy Sue (Shayne) Casey, LeAnne Marie (Anthony) Casey, and Michelle Lorene (Albert) Thomas all of Topeka, a step daughter Sandra Sue Swader of Topeka, a twin sister Jean Rose of Olathe, Ks., sisters Pam McNally of Kansas City, Ks., and Mary Temple of Oro Valley, AZ., three brothers, Daryl Nickel of Las Vegas, NV, Paul Nickel of Belle Plaine, Iowa and David Nickel of Wichita, KS. and nine grandchildren and two step grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a grandson Zachary Michael Harrison on December 26, 1994.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 1st at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m.  Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Mausoleum.
