John R. Hickey

John R. Hickey, 89, Topeka, KS died Monday, November 1, 2010 at Midland Hospice Care.

He was born April 4, 1921 in Scott City, KS the son of John H. and Maude A. (Beckly) Hickey.  He was an Untied States Coast Guard World War II Veteran serving from 1943 to 1946.

John was a mechanic at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for over 30 years retiring in 1983.

He was married to Veronica H. Heenan in Hazelton, PA on April 22, 1944. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica on October 6, 1999 and by a son, Kenneth, August 31, 1970.

John is survived by a son, Keith Hickey of Topeka, KS, three daughters, Jeanne and her husband Kenneth Urish of Scranton, KS, Patricia Hickey and Carolyn Merrill both of Topeka, KS, a sister, Norma Lee Moore of Idaho Falls, ID, four grandchildren, Jamie, Blair, Stacy, and Tracy, three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. 

He will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
