Leland V. Broxterman, 75, of Topeka, passed away August 30, 2010 at his home.
He was born in Baileyville, Kansas on December 28, 1934 the son of A.J. and Helen (Nolte) Broxterman. Leland attended Seaman and Hayden High School.
Leland was a veteran and was in the National Guard. He owned and operated the Leland Broxterman Painting Company from 1963 to 2000.
Leland enjoyed watching all types of sporting events. He had enjoyed hunting, scuba diving and traveling in his R.V.
He was a member of Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church, American Legion Post #400, the German-American Club, Wolpertinger Club, and was a former member of Moose Lodge #555.
Leland married Norma Diane Tussel on February 19, 1954, they later divorced. She survives. He married Romona S. (Cummings) Ward on January 27, 2007 in Mesa, Arizona. She survives. He is also survived by four children, Stephen V. Broxterman and wife Ann, Christine M. Austin and husband Jamey all of Topeka, Cynthia A. Miller and husband Michael of Valley Falls, and Michael L. Broxterman and wife Kathy of Ozawkie, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three step children, Mikel Ward and wife Sonja of Oswego, Ks., Marlin Ward and wife Darcy and Nickolas Ward and wife Deanna all of Topeka, eight step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Thelma Richards (Robert) of Bremerton, WA., Dennis B. Broxterman (Lee) of Ozawkie, Orlin Broxterman of Topeka, Luana Niemackl (Duane) of Topeka, Geraldine Miller (Harold) of Wakarusa, Arnette Grove (Norman) of Topeka, Dorlyn Montgomery of Carbondale, Marion Broxterman (Martha) of Mayetta, Vernus Broxterman of Topeka, Janelle Money (Jim) of Phoenix, AZ., Daniel Broxterman (Karen) of Meriden. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Merlyn and Connis, a granddaughter Jessica Broxterman and a nephew James Broxterman..
Leland will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A parish rosary and prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mater Dei’s Holy Name Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided.
