Dorothy P. O’Hara, 90, of Topeka, died July 2, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Health Center.
She was born to Walter and Martha (Hendrickson) Kennedy on May 4, 1920 in Boynton, OK.
Dorothy was a homemaker and was supportive of all her husband’s activities during his 22 years of military service and 15 years of service with the Interstate Commerce Commission. Dorothy’s husband served abroad in Japan and Germany where his family was stationed with him. She wrote to her husband every day while he was away on military duties. She was a member of the Bowling League at Gage Bowl, and was an avid golfer with the Women’s Golf League, member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle #503 where she held many offices. She was also an active volunteer at her church, St. Francis Auxiliary where she served as past president and for the Children’s Miracle Network.
Dorothy married Thomas P. O’Hara on June 16, 1940 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1992. She is survived by a daughter Barbara (Glenn) Bowman of Spring, TX, two sons, Michael (Lena) O’Hara of Topeka, Jerald (Patricia) O’Hara of Peachtree City, GA., seven grandchildren; Jeff Bowman, Jenni Campbell, Elizabeth “Beth” O’Hara, Steven O’Hara, Patrick O’Hara, Brendan O’Hara and Caitlin “Casey” O’Hara, five great grandchildren Brittney, Brandan, Bailey, Cassidy and Kyle, a sister Edythe Murray of Zephyr Hills, FL. Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Kennedy.
Dorothy will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. where a Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle #503 Rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
