Calixto “Cali” Martin Jr., 76, Topeka, died Thursday April 29, 2010 at St. Francis Health Center.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on October 14, 1933 the son of Calixto and Conception (Marquez) Martin Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Cali retired from the A.T.& S.F. Railway Company where he had been a carman.
Cali was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Nate Morales Council #11777 and James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was active with the Boy Scouts and had been a troop leader.
He married Lucy Valdivia in Topeka, Kansas on June 16, 1956, she survives. He is also survived by his children, Stephen Martin, Rita Martin, Rose (David) Burbank and James (Jill) Martin all of Topeka, seven grandchildren, a brother, Joe Martinez, four sisters, Mary Torrez, Tomasa Sapata, Agapita Ceballos, and Augustina Hernandez.
Calixto will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary and Chalice Ceremony at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Prayer Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in his memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
