Virginia McClanahan

June 7, 1918 — April 22, 2010

Virginia Rison McClanahan, 91, of Topeka, passed away April 22, 2010 with family and friends by her side.

She was born June 7, 1918 in Topeka the daughter of Emmett Earl and Barbara (Hirshfield) Rison.  Virginia graduated from Capitol Catholic High School in 1936.  She later attended Strickler’s Business College.

Virginia enjoyed traveling, knitting, needle point and was an avid reader.

She was employed by the AT & SF Railroad.

Virginia was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

She was married to Fritz E. McClanahan on August 16, 1952 in Topeka.  He preceded her in death March 17, 2010.

Among the surviving nieces and nephews are nephews Patrick & John Hubbell of Topeka and niece Barbara McMinn of Converse, IN.  Several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews also survive.  Virginia was known as “JuJu” by all her family.

Mrs. McClanahan will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SW 6th Ave, 66603.
