Nettie B. Beard

Nettie B. “Bea” Beard, 88, of Topeka, died April 15, 2010 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

She was born in Mountain View, Arkansas on August 16, 1921 the daughter of Andrew Spencer and Martha Elizabeth (Hinkle) Barham.

Bea worked as a cashier for the Sutton Grocery Store in North Topeka.  She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church.

She was married to William Ollie Thornton who preceded her in death.  Bea was also preceded in death by a daughter Freda Seckinger in 2004.  Survivors include two sons, William Thornton and wife Brenda of Topeka, Harry Thornton and wife Ruby of Tecumseh, two daughters, Linda Koch and husband Maurice of Hoyt, Dorothy Day and husband Gary of Topeka, her companion William Barrick, a brother, Hershel Barham of Illinois, 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Bea will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends.  Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with interment following at the Overbrook Cemetery in Overbrook, Kansas.
