William M. Guilfoyle, 86, of Topeka, died April 13, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Guilfoyle was born on March 15, 1924 in Sperry, Oklahoma the son of Joseph Patrick and Opal Edith (Roles) Guilfoyle.
William served in the U.S. Marines during World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years retiring as a Supervisor.
He was a good person with a great sense of humor who loved people and God. William was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW Post both in Greeley, Kansas. He was also a member of the National Association of Postal Workers and St. Matthew Catholic Church.
William married Theresa Marie Volz on October 7, 1947 in Greeley, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a grandson Edward John Ortiz on October 19, 1982, and by three brothers, Pat, John and Thomas Jude Guilfoyle and a sister Mildred Marie. He is survived by a son Kenneth Guilfoyle of Topeka, four daughters, Diana K. Guilfoyle, Dorothy M. Ortiz and Brenda S. Guilfoyle all of Topeka and Beth J. Dodd of Sandy, Utah, a brother, Carl Guilfoyle of Greeley, Ks., two sisters, Sr. Judith Guilfoyle RSM of Oklahoma City, Ok., and Margaret “Margie” Bond of Tulsa, Ok., eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mr. Guilfoyle will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Vigil Prayer Service will be at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted.
