Eric Jason Collins

Eric Jason Collins, 34, of Berryton, died April 7, 2010 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

 

He was born in Houston, Texas on November 14, 1975 the son of Brian and Carolyn (Clement) Collins.  He was a 1995 graduate of Topeka West High School. 

 

Eric enjoyed fishing, paintball, cars and all types of animals especially his dog “Koda”.  He loved spending time with his children.

 

He worked as a heavy machine operator for rock quarries.

 

Eric married Chrystal Filkins on July 20, 1996 in Topeka, Kansas.  She survives.  He is also survived by his children Jenna, Joey and Jordan Collins all of the home, his parents, Brian and Carolyn Collins of Benbrook, Texas, a sister Christie Owens and husband Cory of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a brother Jeffrey Collins of Ft. Worth, Texas and his grandparents, Carol and Arthur Clement of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

 

Eric will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Berryton United Methodist Church.  Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. 

 

At Eric’s request he would like those attending the service to wear blue jeans, and either a Texas Longhorn or Dallas Cowboy shirt or their colors in burnt orange or blue.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Collin’s Children Education Fund and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
