Robert Newman Johns

Robert (Bob) Newman Johns, 90, life long resident of Topeka died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at St. Francis Health Center.

Mr. Johns was born June 29, 1919 in Topeka, KS the son of August and Mary (Wilkinson) Johns

Before his retirement he was a machinist for AT & SF Railroad.  He was a member of Mater Dei’s Holy Name Catholic Church he served as a PFC in the United States Army, was a member of the Sante Fe Railroad Retirement Club and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #534 and the James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree.

Robert married Loretta (Urban) Johns in Topeka November 26, 1955 she preceded him in death January 21, 1998.

He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Rita Johns, Mary Pat Garvert and Jeanne Guesnier, survivors include a brother Raymond Johns, a sister, Helen Johns. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and a friend to everyone he met.  

Mr. Johns will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 p.m. a Knights of Columbus Rosary and Chalice Ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. Parish and Family Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Mater Dei’s Holy Name Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
