Josephine B. Young, 82, of Topeka, died March 28, 2010 at the Midland Hospice House.
She was born on April 17, 1927 in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of Stephen P. and Elizabeth (Artzer) Stramel. She had been a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s German Catholic Parish.
She graduated from Hayden High School in 1944 and married Oscar C. “Tex” Young of Lubbock, Texas that same year.
Jo worked for Meyer’s Yearbooks, which later became Josten’s until the mid 1960’s. She then went to work for the Kansas City Life Insurance Company where she was employed until her retirement.
Jo loved to travel and took many cruises with friends and family. She spent part of many summers in Branson, Mo. A part of every winter was spent with family in Arizona, and she loved Colorado in the summer where she had extended family. She also enjoyed all of the time she spent with her Texas family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oscar “Tex” in 1978, a loving daughter Pamela S. Young Rusk in 2001, four sisters, one brother and many lifelong friends.
Jo is survived by her children Charles “Cliff” Young Sr. and his wife Rita of Golden Valley, Arizona, Gregory P. Young and his wife Patti Dawson Young of Topeka, a daughter Peggy Chittenden and her husband Gary of Topeka, a foster son Cliff Morris and his companion Hall Bradshaw of Tempe, Arizona. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Vickie, Rob, Charles, Tim, Traci, Brian and Kevin and six great grandchildren, Chris, Nicole, Charley, Hayley, Trenton and Dayton.
She will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
