Marian Tangney

June 21, 1917 — March 21, 2010

Marian Fletcher Tangney went peacefully to Heaven on Sunday, March 21, 2010.  Mrs. Tangney was born June 21, 1917 to Eugene and Jessie Holloway Fletcher.  Mrs. Tangney was raised in Morrill, KS, and graduated from Morrill High School in 1935.  She was employed by Earl Francis and Son Law Office, then for the federal government in Washington, DC.  She attended college in Denver, CO, and worked for the Capital Service Bureau in Topeka, KS.

Mrs. Tangney married Roy James Tangney in November 1941.  Mr. and Mrs. Tangney had two sons, Marvin Eugene Tangney, born April 1943, and John Patrick Tangney, born January 1945.  

Mrs. Tangney is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Jessie, her sister, Shirley Jane Fletcher Anderson, her brother, Eugene Fletcher, Jr, her former husband, Roy, their son, John, and a nephew, Fletcher Anderson.  She is survived by her son, Marvin, of Stafford, KS; his three daughters, Pamela Tangney Minnis, Fort Worth, TX, Gwendolyn Tangney George (Tony), Wakarusa, and Marlo Tangney Newell, Topeka, and his two stepchildren, Natalie Garrett Davis, and Paul Garrett (Christine), Topeka; her grandson, Patrick David Tangney, Edmond, OK; her adopted daughter, Felicia Miller (Michael) , Overland Park, and adopted granddaughters, Terra Jones (Terry), Topeka, and Courtney Commons (Brian), Ozawkie.  Mrs. Tangney is also survived by five nephews, one niece, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tangney thoroughly enjoyed all of her friends and family.  She was an avid reader, a master of Cryptaquotes, and loved working all sorts of puzzles.  She also made a number of beautiful afghans that will be used by her family for years to come.

Mrs. Tangney was a member of Topeka Bible Church for more than 40 years.  Mrs. Tangney leaves behind a number of close friends she made over the past 27 years while being a resident of the First Christian Church Apartments. 

Mrs. Tangney will be cremated.  A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, March 24, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral home located at 800 SW 6th Ave in Topeka, at 11:00 am.  A lunch in her honor will be served at First Christian Church Apartments immediately following the service.  Donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, 2231 SW Wanamaker Rd, Ste 202, Topeka, KS, 66614 and Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th St, Topeka, KS, 66604.
