Raymond V. Dashnaw, 78, died Sunday, February 28th at Midland Hospice House.
Raymond was born March 5, 1931 in Watertown, New York the son of Julius and Nellie (McKee) Dashnaw.
Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He started his career at the Supply Depot until its closing. At that time he became a Military Technician for the Department of Defense and was also concurrently in the reserves. He later became a Retention Sergeant Major for the 4th Army until his retirement in 1991.
Raymond was active in his children’s school activities. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus Council #13012 at St. Matthew and previously Council #534, and a member of the James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
On September 13, 1953 he was united in marriage to Rosemary Weigel at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Topeka. She preceded him in death September 30, 2009.
He is survived by sons, Raymond J. (Karen), Daniel and Gary all of Topeka, granddaughters Lesley (Justin) Gutierrez, Topeka and Courtney Dashnaw, Waco, TX; three great grandchildren, two brothers, Michael (Helen) Dashnaw of Washington, IN., and Joe (Doe) Dashnaw of Cape Cod, MA., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Daniel Dashnaw.
Raymond will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. with a Vigil Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. followed by a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary and Chalice Ceremony at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
