Esperanza G. “Hope” Gonzalez, 85, of Topeka, died February 13, 2010 at her home.
She was born on December 18, 1924 in Kanopolis, Kansas the daughter of Pilar and Cornelia (Gonzalez) Rojas.
Hope was a homemaker who loved to cook, bake and garden. When her children were young she was an active room mother, member of the PTA and involved in her children’s school activities.
She was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Parish.
Hope married Vicente “Vincent” Gonzalez in Topeka, Kansas on February 23, 1946. He survives her along with two children, Vincent Gonzales Jr. and Lorraine Gonzales both of Topeka, four grandchildren, Roger Gonzales, Bryan Gonzales, Helena Chavez, Heather Lovell and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Jimmy Rojas of Kanopolis, Kansas, and four sisters, Julia Carrion of Wichita, Eleanor “Ellie” Fernandez of Salina, Kansas, Josephine Fernandez of Wichita, and Luisa “Lula” Thomas of Salina. Hope was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Lupe Rojas, Ernie Rojas, Pilar Rojas Jr., and Dorothy Espinoza.
Hope will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Catholic Community Hospice and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
