Joseph J. Mauer, 91, of Topeka, died February 12, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital.
Joe was born in Topeka, Kansas on January 14, 1919 the son of John and Emma (Hefner) Mauer. He served in the U.S. Army for 35 months in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II.
He worked for the Gas Service Company for 30 years, retiring on June 1, 1981.
Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #2608.
He is survived by four brothers, Frank Mauer of Topeka, Raymond Mauer of Paxico, Jacob Mauer of Liberty, Missouri, and Charles Mauer of Salina, Kansas; three sisters, Ann Marie Harmes, Lavina McCall and Delores Mauer all of Topeka and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents,a brother John Mauer, Jr. and five sisters, Regina Hartman, Irene Reeb, Catherine Edee, Lucille Bean and Isabel Mauer.
Mr. Mauer will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where a Knights of Columbus Council #2608 Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Parish Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W.
