Geraldine L. (Jerri) Kippes, 85, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Brewster Place.
She was born December 16, 1924 in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of George and Catherine E. (Degand) Kippes and had a sister 1 ½ years younger.
Jerri graduated from Capitol Catholic High School in 1942. She worked at Morell Packing Company in the summers while attending high school and continued to work there for another seven and a half years in the plant office. After the plant was closed down in 1951 after the flood she went to work at Goodyear as vacation relief. This job was to last only two months but she continued to be employed as a secretary for 35 years. She eventually left to care for her mother who was ill.
She was a devout member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Women’s Club at the church, and Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle #503. Jerri enjoyed taking correspondence classes from Kansas University involving Trusts, Wills, and etc.
Jerri was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Mildred L. Kippes on December 4, 1997. She is survived by her caregiver, Roy Knisley and several cousins.
Jerri will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the Daughters of Isabella will pray a rosary at 5:00 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Most Pure Heart of Mary Church or the Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SW 6th Ave, 66603.
