Serafina Blanco

Serafina Blanco, 89, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Manor Care Nursing Home.

Serafina was born October 12, 1920 in Valley Falls, one of  twelve children born to Ascension and Benita (Aguilar) Juarez.  She married Lorenzo Blanco on November 22, 1940 in Valley Falls.  He preceded her in death on November 7, 1980.

She was a Surgical Aide at Santa-Fe Hospital.  Serafina was a member of St. Matthew and later Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and raising her family.

Serafina is survived by a son, Lawrence Blanco, Jr., daughters, Rita Williams, Loretta Boursaw, Angelina Luttjohnn, Mary Gilbert, Beatrice Mikell, Anna Zeller, Caroline Blanco, Kathryn Howell all of Topeka, and Cynthia Ogan of Andover, Ks., 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.  Serfina was also survived by two brothers and five sisters.  Serafina was preceded in death by four of her siblings.

Mrs. Blanco will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends after 4 p.m. and a Parish Vigil will be at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with interment following at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
