Solana Schmeidler, SFCC, 84, of Topeka, passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 at Manor Care.
She was born February 18, 1925 in Catherine the daughter of John and Emma (Wolfe) Schmeidler. Sr. Solana attended Catherine Grade School, St. Agnes High School in Fond du Lac, WI and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Louis University in 1954. She was a former member of the Congregation of the sisters of Saint Agnes and currently was a member of the Sisters for Christian Community.
Sr. Solana was employed by the Federal Government in medical records at the Tohono O’Odham Nation in Sells, AZ before she retired in 1992.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she served as a Religious Education Teacher and also was a foster grandparent.
Sr. Solana is survived by, two brothers, Cyril and Harold Schmeidler both of Hays and a sister Fidelia R. Herbert of Topeka. A niece Marilyn Vasquez of Topeka has been her caregiver the past several years. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A sister Solana Moore and three brothers, John, Celly and Gilbert Schmeidler preceded her in death.
Sr. Solana was cremated. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or St. Catherine Catholic Church.
