Paul L. Michael, 75, of Topeka, died on December 9, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital.

 

Paul was born on March 12, 1934 in Waverly, Kansas the son of L D and Louise (Meyers) Michael. 

 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  Paul was a heavy equipment operator for Rylie Equipment company and was self employed, retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union #101.  He also trained horses and was a jockey for 30 years.

 

Paul loved to fish for catfish and enjoyed hunting.

He married D. Louise Waugh in Waverly, Kansas on April 16, 1955.   She survives.  He is survived by three sons, Bryant (Martine) Michael of Kearney, MO., Edwin (Lazina) Michael and Roger Michael all of Topeka, two daughters, Paula Michael of Topeka and Mary (Richard) Benjamin of Emporia, 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Paul is also survived by two brothers, Jerry (Roberta) Michael of Emporia, George (Joyce) Michael of Warrensburg, MO., and a sister, Mary Lou (Gary) McPhail of Topeka.  He was preceded in death by a brother Jack Michael and a sister Shirley Whitener.

 

Mr. Michael will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Vigil Prayer Service with Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.   The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery in Waverly, Kansas.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Church and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
