Thomas Hernandez, Jr., 80, of Topeka, passed away Friday, November 13, 2009 at his home.
He was born November 10, 1929 in Topeka the son of Tomas and Francisca (Hernandez) Hernandez.
Thomas was employed by United Corporation for thirty years before he retired. He worked repairing non pollution furnaces and was also a “trouble shooter” which took him from coast to coast, border to border and Venezuela. .
He enjoyed working restoring old cars, was a fan of the KU Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Thomas was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He was married to Mary Louise Marmolejo on November 4, 1950 in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Robert, Edward and Richard Hernandez all of Topeka, three daughters, Marta Guerrero, Alicia Negrete and Anna Hernandez all of Topeka, a sister Sr. Louisa Alonso SdeM of Bronx, NY and a half sister Mary Lou Morrison of Jacksonville, FL. Numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond and a sister Paula Labred.
Thomas will lie in state from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Cremation will follow the service with inurnment in Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church or Midland Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SW 6th Ave., 66603.
