Ruby Elaine Desch, 89, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Select Specialty Hospital.
She was born July 10, 1920 in St. Marys the daughter of Harry and Josephine (Guyette) Jones. Ruby graduated from Topeka High School and Strickler’s Business School.
Mrs. Desch was employed in the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office for twenty-two years before she retired.
Ruby was a pen pal with Rochester Elementary School students. She enjoyed singing and working crossword puzzles.
She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and later Holy Name Catholic Church. Ruby was also a member of the Prime Timers Senior Group, New Beginnings Choir and St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary.
Ruby was married to Nolan Wayne Desch on May 24, 1944 in Hutchinson. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1976.
Survivors include one daughter Linda S. McKinley and her husband Marc of Phoenix, AZ, two sons, Larry W. Desch and his wife Maryann of Orland Park, IL and Donald R. Desch of Hurst, TX, two sisters, Lois Delfelder and Lillian Pogson both of Topeka and one brother Lee Jones of Lee’s Summit, MO. Six grandchildren, Haley Desch, Emily Desch Laura Desch, Jeffrey Desch, Megan Trosko and Melissa McKinley and two great grandchildren Olivia Trosko and Dominic Trosko also survive.
Mrs. Desch will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A parish rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Calvary Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Aldersgate Village at 3:30 p.m.
