Fermin H. Llamas, 87, of Topeka, died October 24, 2009 at the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on October 11, 1922 the son of Ventura and Luz Mary (Oliva) Llamas.
Fermin was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1943 to 1945.
He worked for several businesses during his working life. He most recently had retired from Josten’s Publishing. Previously he worked as a bar owner and bartender, postal worker, taxi cab driver, and for Morrell’s Packing, Seymour Foods, Hill’s, and Santa Fe.
Fermin enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a coin collector and liked to bowl. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the Nate Morales Chapter #11777 of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #400, and L.U.L.A.C.
He married Pauline Garcia in Topeka, Kansas in February of 1943. She preceded him in death on November 21, 2002. He was also predeceased by a grandson, Raymond Hernandez Jr. on December 23, 1992 and by two brothers, Tom and Paul and two sisters, Susie and Ruby. Survivors include his son Philip (Cathy) Llamas of Topeka, daughter, Rosemary Hernandez of Topeka, a sister, Vera Flores of Temecula, CA., six grandchildren; Tina Jones, Anthony Hernandez, Sharon Morris, Nicole Woodward, Philip Llamas Jr. and Brian Llamas, 20 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Llamas will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Knights of Columbus Council #11777 Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Parish at 7:15 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
