Rosemary Dashnaw

Rosemary Gertrude Dashnaw passed away September 30, 2009 after a month long fight with cancer at her home in the loving care of her family in Topeka, Kansas.

 Rosemary was born May 29, 1932 in Topeka, the daughter of George J. and Marie R. (Meier) Weigel.  She grew up and lived most all of her life in Topeka.  She followed her husband to various Army posts in Louisiana, Texas, Michigan and Illinois.  Rosemary graduated from Hayden High School in 1951 and was a graduate of Clark’s Business School in Topeka and attended classes at Washburn University.

 Rosemary was a legal secretary and retired from the U.S. Attorney’s office in Topeka in 1997.  She was a legal secretary at the 4th US Army Management Office at Ft. Sheridan, Il. and worked for a couple law firms in Topeka.  She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Topeka and was active in the past with several guilds.  She was an institution for many years at the St. Matthew Annual Church Bizarre along with her cousin, Dolores Christensen.  More recently she was active with the monthly luncheon for the teachers and the grandparents program at Hayden High School.  She volunteered her time at St. Francis Hospital for many years and in the past she was active with the Boy Scout organization in Topeka.

 On September 13, 1953 she was united in marriage, to then USAF Airman First Class Raymond V. Dashnaw of Ogdensburg, NY at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Topeka.  He survives at the home.

 Her parents George and Marie Weigel preceded Rosemary in death.  She is survived by her husband Raymond V.; sons, Raymond J. (Karen), Daniel and Gary all of Topeka; a brother Francis (Donna) Weigel, Lawrence; granddaughters Lesley (Justin) Gutierrez, Topeka and Courtney Dashnaw, Waco, TX;  three great grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews and two great nephews and one great niece; many loving uncles, cousins and friends.

 Rosemary will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Vigil Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. 

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the St. Matthew Capital Campaign or Midland Hospice and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
