Arthur A. Preston

Arthur Xavier Preston, 86, of Topeka, died September 23, 2009 at Plaza West Health Center.

He was born in New York City on October 5, 1922 the son of Arthur Edward and Ann Frances (Fitzpatrick) Preston.  Arthur was a graduate of the St. Joseph Military School. 

Arthur worked in the oil fields for seven years.  He retired in 1989 from the U.S. Postal Service where he had been a mail clerk and was a member of the Postal Union.

He was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Parish and was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Arthur was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Gorham, Kansas.  He moved to Topeka from Gorham in 1953.

He is survived by a niece Maria Anne Zulaica and was preceded in death by a sister Mary Zulaica on July 29, 2007.

Mr. Preston will lie in state at Mater Dei Assumption Parish on Friday after 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. with a celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
