Henrietta Flowers, 97, of Topeka passed away Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Community Health Care Center.
She was born July 15, 1912 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Roman and Jovita (Ruiz) Reyes. Her father died when she was two and one half months old, she was raised by her step-father Manuel Martinez.
Henrietta was employed in housekeeping for the First National Bank for many years before she retired. In her young adult life she was employed by Seymour Foods.
She loved crocheting, baking and animals. Henrietta especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Henrietta was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She was married to Joe Flowers on January 5, 1935 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1997. She also was preceded in death by siblings; Mabel R. Perez, Joe R. Martinez, Anastacia Gonzales, Elvira Gutierrez, Pedro R. Martinez, Anthony R. Martinez, Logie R. Martinez and an infant brother Paul R. Martinez.
Henrietta is survived by three sons, Daniel A. Flowers and wife Judy of Topeka, Michael J. Flowers and wife Ann of Topeka, and Philip P. Flowers and wife Sharron of Baytown, TX and a daughter Rita A. Flowers of Lawrence. Twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Flowers will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
