Augustina Ortiz

Augustina Ortiz, 90, 0f Topeka, passed away Monday September 7, 2009 at Manor Care Health Services.

She was born May 5, 1919 in Purisima Del Bustos, GTO, Mexico the daughter of Jose and Delores (Lopez) Soto.

Augustina was employed by Stormont-Vail Hospital before she retired.  Her hobbies included sewing and gardening.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Augustina was married to Felipe Ortiz in Topeka.  He preceded her in death on June 7, 1957.  Two children, Felipe Ortiz, Jr. and Esperanza Llamas also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: four sons, Tony Ortiz and his wife Dorothy of Whittier, CA, Frank Ortiz of Topeka, Joe Ortiz and his wife Virginia of Elk Grove, CA and Augustine Ortiz and his wife Sandra of Yuma, AZ and two daughters, Mary A. Soto and her husband Daniel of Kansas City, KS and Carmen “Mary” Martinez and her husband Manuel of Topeka. Thirty grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Ortiz will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Assoc. or the American Cancer Society sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SW 6th Ave., 66603.
