Cirilo Torrez, 81, of Topeka, died August 27, 2009 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on July 9, 1928, the son of Mariano and Refugia (Valdivia) Torrez.
Cirilo was in the U.S. Air Force for eleven and served during the Korean Conflict.
He was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he was a tire builder for 15 years.
Cirilo was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe where he was very active in the Fiesta Mexicana activities and was a member of the Nate Morales Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed sports, especially baseball. Cirilo also enjoyed gardening.
He married Refugia Oliva in November of 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by a brother Louis Torrez of Topeka, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Mr. Torrez will lie in state on Sunday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church from 4-8 p.m. where a Parish Vigil Service will be at 5:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W.
