Mildred E. “Millie” Stork, 84, of Topeka, died August 15, 2009 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born in Topeka, Kansas on February 2, 1925 the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Burghart) Konrade.
Millie was a 1943 graduate of Capitol Catholic High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Washburn University in Elementary Education and her Master’s in Special Education from Kansas State University. Millie taught at Our Lady of Guadalupe and Seaman District elementary schools and was a special education teacher. Before her retirement in 1987 she had been working as a Case Manager for Social and Rehabilitation Services and was also an Arbitrator for the State of Kansas.
Millie was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the American Historical Society of German’s from Russia. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work for several organizations including Ward Meade and Most Pure Heart of Mary School.
She married August J. Stork on October 8, 1949. He preceded her in death.
Millie is survived by five children; Alane (Richard) Humbarger of Lawrence, Alan Stork and Robert (Judi) Stork all of Topeka, Katie (Gary) Bacon of Emporia, and Sally (Marty) Grassi of Wichita Falls, Texas; twelve grandchildren, Kris Humbarger, David Humbarger, Alyssa Humbarger, Emilie Humbarger, Michael Grassi, Erin Stork, Madison Grassi, Corey Bacon, Abby Stork, Katelyn Grassi, Kelly Bacon, and Kristin Grassi and one great granddaughter, Martha Humbarger. She is also survived by two sisters, Catherine Martin and Dolores Cobelans and two brothers, Wilfred Konrade and Woodrow (Bonnie) Konrade. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jake, Ray and John Konrade and two sisters, Sarah Moritz and Mary Hefner.
She will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
