Jose Pilar Retana Martinez

Jose Pilar Retana Martinez, 44, of Topeka, died July 24, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital E.R.

Jose was born in Nazaz, Durango, Mexico on May 5, 1965 the son of Tiburcio Retana and Celsa Martinez, they survive in Mexico.

He was a bridge construction specialist.  Jose was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the East Topeka North N.I.A.

He married Rachelle R. Vega on March 3, 2006 in Topeka.  She survives.  He is also survived by a daughter Jessica Retana in Mexico, step-daughters, Alexandria Vega and Sofia Muniz both of Topeka, a step-son Ricky Muniz of Topeka, brothers, Santos, Arturo, Artemio, and Chencho all of Topeka, Alberto, Sebero, Javier and Francisco all of Mexico, sisters Pola Retana of Mexico and Berlin Retana of Topeka, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jose will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Vigil will be at 6:30 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.  Interment will be held later in Mexico.
