James W. Weckwerth

June 29, 1936 — July 20, 2009

James W. Weckwerth, 73, of Topeka, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at Stormont-Vail Health Care.

 

He was born June 29, 1936 in Edgemont, SD the son of Walter and Mabel Weckwerth.  James served in the United States Air Force from 1956 – 1959.

 

James worked at Meadow Gold before joining the Topeka Police Department in 1963.  After his retirement in 1986 he worked in Security at Washburn University.  He also managed the Ridgewood Estates Mobile Home Park while with the police department.

 

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, FOP Lodge # 3 and Bicentennial Post #225 of the American Legion at Ozawkie.

 

James was married to Linda Hobbs in January of 1981 in Topeka, she survives.

 

Other survivors include; two sons, Keith and Doug Weckwerth both of Topeka, two daughters, Carol Schuman of Topeka and Debbie, Lowry of Auburn, three sisters, Clara Erixson of Crawford, NE, Judy Schance of Boise, ID and Rita Bourquin of Loomis, NE.  Ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

 

James was cremated.  A parish rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church followed by the family receiving friends until 7:30 p.m.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and sent in care of the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave, 66603.
