Alfred Thomas Sr.

Alfred E. “Al” Thomas, Sr., 76, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday June 2, 2009 at his home.

He was born February 24, 1933 in Bayard, KS the son of Clifford Eugene and Goldie Marie (Stevens) Thomas.  Alfred was a graduate of Moran High School.  He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Alfred was a drywall contractor and owned Al Thomas Drywall until his retirement.

He enjoyed dancing, country and western music and western novels.  Al loved; his children and grandchildren, gardening, especially plants and to collect treasures of all kinds.

Alfred was a member of Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW and American Legion Post #385 in Moran.

He was married to Sharon Falley in 1960.  They were married for nineteen years before they divorced.

Survivors include his children; Alfred “Al” Thomas, Jr. and his wife Debra, Timothy “Tim” Thomas, Connie Thomas all of Topeka and Joseph Dale Thomas of Meriden, one brother Russell and three sisters Maxine, Wanda and Susie.  Eight grandchildren, Jessica, Tyler, Sarah, Rachel, Rebekah, Macy, Alex and Alayna and three great grandchildren, Adriana, Jesse and Harrison also survive.

Mr. Thomas will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors provided by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
