Jesus Ramirez

Jesus A. “Chee Wee” Ramirez, 85, of Topeka, died May 25, 2009 at the Colmery-O’Neil V.A. Medical Center.

Jesus was born in Topeka, Kansas on August 7, 1923 the son of Manuel and Helen (Almaguer) Ramirez. 

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and continued to keep in touch with members of his platoon.  He was a past member of American Legion Capitol Post #1.

Mr. Ramirez was retired in 1983 after over 30 years of service as a carman for the AT&SF Railway Company.  He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen Union. 

Jesus will be remembered for his love of his family and friends and the fact that he never met a stranger.  He was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

He married Lucy Gomez in Topeka, Kansas on January 26, 1947, she survives of the home.  He is also survived by a son Jesus (Eva) Ramirez Jr. of Topeka, two daughters, Linda (Bill) Gonzalez of Topeka and Diana Ramirez of Tecumseh, a brother Daniel Ramirez of Topeka, eight grandchildren; Jesse Ramirez III, Troy Ramirez, Brian Ramirez, Mark Clanton, Nanette Padilla, Ryan Barron, Jessica Barron and Jordan Barron, eleven great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marina Perez and three brothers, Baltazar, Joe and George.

Mr. Ramirez will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
