Beryl McCullough, 88, of Topeka, died April 19, 2009 at Lexington Park Retirement Center. He was born in Albia, Iowa on April 24, 1920 the son of Ira and Alice Felicia (Carlton) McCullough. Beryl was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He managed the meat department for Butner IGA and later carried mail for many years before he retired. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. Beryl was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church, was a 45 year member of the National Letter Carriers Association, Philip Billard Post #1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post #198 at Osage City, Disabled American Veterans Chapter #3, Topeka Lodge #17 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of Valley of Topeka Orient of Kansas, Arab Temple. He married Eleanor Maxine Wagaman in Colton, California on June 23, 1943. She preceded him in death on July 31, 1993. Survivors include his sisters, Mildred Truelove of Burlington, Ks., Alice M. DeLong of Yates Center, Ileene (Ronald) Newsome of Aurora, Ill., Lucille (Duane) Atherly of Topeka and Anna Lou From of Chanute and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Victor and Fred and sister, Wilma Carlton. Mr. McCullough will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home where the Masonic Lodge will also provide special services. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Burlington, Kansas with military honors provided by Ft. Riley. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beryl McCullough Memorial Fund created to fulfill his wish to assist with his great-great niece’s medical and educational needs.
