Juanita Marie Hunninghake, 80, of Topeka, died April 19, 2009 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born in Topeka, Kansas on March 2, 1929, the daughter of Theodore “Butch” and Irene C. (Desch) Hefner.
Juanita was a homemaker. She will be remembered for her love of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, embroidering and gardening.
She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Juanita married Leo J. Hunninghake Jr. in Topeka, Kansas on June 24, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1988.
Survivors include: One daughter, Anita (Ron) Vawter of Topeka; three sons, Michael (Linda) Hunninghake of Wakarusa, Ray (Donna) Hunninghake of Topeka, Col. David (Patti) Hunninghake stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Marilyn (Bill) Emory of Austin, Texas, and Judy Wilder of Overland Park, Ks. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren; Gabe, Jake, Jason, Jessica, Josh, Lisa, Becky, Rachel, Chris, Amanda and Patrick, fifteen great grandchildren and four more great grandchildren due this year.
She will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. followed by the family receiving friends until 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
