Mary Slaybaugh

Mary Ilene Slaybaugh, 75, of Topeka, died April 12, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mary was born in Hoyt, Kansas on June 7, 1933 the daughter of George E. and Ruth H. (Stewart) Schone.  She was a graduate of Highland Park High School.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist church in Tecumseh.  She will be remembered for her care giving to others, her love of KU Basketball and keeping up with current events and politics.

She retired from the State of Kansas as a Secretary for the Secretary of the S.R.S. Office after 44 years of service.

Mary was married to Gerald P. Slaybaugh in Topeka, Kansas on May 6, 1966.  He preceded her in death in 1992.  She is survived by her daughter, Amy Slaybaugh and two grandchildren, Jadzia Vigors and Sasha Vigors all of Kansas City, Missouri; a brother Melvin Schone and wife Cindy of Garland, Texas, many nephews and nieces.

Mary will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday where the family will receive friends from 12 to 1:00 p.m.  Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Thursday.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
