Robert Lee “Bob” Liening, 70, of Topeka, died April 7, 2009, at his home.
He was born in Seneca, Kansas, on July 19, 1938, the son of John Henry and Gertrude (Huerter) Liening.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked in the printing business his entire life and retired in May of 2000 as manager of First Impressions Printing.
He loved spending time with his grandson, Jordan; playing cards, going to the casinos, attending K-State football games, riding in his convertible, cooking, gardening and working in his yard, e-mailing jokes to friends, and playing computer games. He also loved dogs and was a handyman. He went daily to the donut shop with a gang of his friends.
He married Mary E. Estes in Topeka, Kansas, on December 29, 1962. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his children, Craig (Susan) Liening of Topeka and Cristi Cain of Topeka, grandson, Jordan Cain of Topeka, and four sisters, Erma Lodwig of Topeka, Nadine Baisley of Garnerville, New York, Alice Bowen of Topeka, and Alvina (Don) Miller of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Henry and Charles Liening.
Mr. Liening will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. where the family will receive friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
