Charles DeWitt

Charles R. “Bob” DeWitt, 74, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Stormont-Vail Health Care.

 

He was employed by the Topeka Capital Journal in the mail room for over 40 years before he retired.

 

Charles was born March 6, 1935 in Burlingame the son of Rueben and Marjorie (Rupert) DeWitt.  He served in the United States Army.  Charles received the Carnegie Award in 1955.

 

He attended Mater Dei’s Assumption Catholic Church.

 

Charles was married to Donna L. Curran on December 8, 1967 in Miami, OK.  She preceded him in death on June 20, 2006.

 

Survivors include: a son David DeWitt of Topeka, a daughter Jennifer (Shawn) Bowen of Topeka, two brothers Donald and Stephen DeWitt both of Topeka and two sisters Norma Zeller and Jean McCall both of Topeka.  Two grandchildren Darian and Paige Bowen also survive.  He was preceded in death by a brother Earl DeWitt and two sisters, Doris Devlin and Betty Bower.

 

Friends may pay their respects after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:30 p.m. A parish rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Big Springs.

 

Memorial contributions may be made St. Jude’s Hospital or to Midland Hospice and sent in care of the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, 66603.
