Kenneth P. Chadwick

July 17, 1921 — March 17, 2009

Kenneth Paul Chadwick, 87, of Topeka, died March 17, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on a farm near Vermillion, Kansas on July 17, 1921 the son of William and Pauline (Hobson) Chadwick.  Ken graduated from Vermillion High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He retired in 1986 from Del Monte Corporation after 21 years of service as a Supervisor in the Distribution Center.r of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where he did Perpetual Adoration for over 18 years and was a member of the Prime Timers.  He was a former member of the Moose Lodge #555, a member of Knights of Columbus Council #4254, Philip Billard Post #1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post #400.

He married Wilma Leigh in 1951, they later divorced.  On October 17, 1969 he married Geraldine “Gerri” Farra in Topeka, Kansas.

Ken is survived by his wife Gerri Chadwick of the home, two daughters, Vicky Chadwick and Kendra Glass (Duane) all of Topeka;  two adopted daughters, Shirley Stallons (Phil) of Topeka and Helen Reece of Lexington, Ky., a sister Helen Mason (John) of Raytown, Mo., two step sons, Larry Hoffman (Kelly) and Charles Hoffman all of Oklahoma City, OK., two step daughters, Sharon Anderson of El Dorado, Ks. and Cindi Cushing (Kent) of Wichita, Ks. and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Rosaries will be recited by the Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle #503 at 4:30 p.m., Knights of Columbus Council #4254 at 6:30 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #400.

Memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church or School or to Catholic Charities Hospice and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 West Sixth Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
